Frequently asked questions

Does this work with iPhone videos?

Yes — iPhone videos are usually saved as .MOV files, which this tool accepts directly alongside .MP4 and .M4V. Both H.264 and HEVC ("High Efficiency") recording formats are supported.

How big will my GIF be?

GIFs are much less efficient than video, so even a short clip can produce a large file — output is capped at 480px wide and 10fps to keep sizes reasonable, but a longer source video will still make a bigger GIF.

Is there a recommended video length?

Short clips (a few seconds up to about a minute) work best. Longer videos take much longer to convert and produce very large GIFs, since GIF has no efficient long-form compression like video formats do.

Why does the GIF look better than a quick online converter's output?

This tool generates a custom color palette from your specific video first, then re-encodes using that palette — the standard technique for avoiding the banding and color loss you see from lower-quality converters.

Does the audio carry over?

No — GIF is an image format and can't contain audio, so the audio track is dropped in the output, same as any video-to-GIF conversion.
